“The use of carbon in new construction projects is one of the most important future topics at GOLDBECK. The company has developed a ceiling board made of carbon concrete that can replace the load-bearing steel armouring of conventional load-bearing elements. In the construction industry, this is like a small revolution.
In more than 400 laboratory tests – some on a scale of 1:1 – the GOLDBECK “Carbon Concrete” project team, led by Oliver Heppes, has investigated the new composite material. The carbon reinforcement is produced in a textile process and coated afterwards. Being corrosion-free, carbon is particularly suitable to be used as a durable material for exterior building components, especially in the case of possible chloride exposure. That’s why the company has decided to focus initially on its use in car park ceiling panels.”
