Last week I was a guest at theFuturebuild construction trade fair in London. My experience: Positive throughout!
Organization & Exhibition Center
It started with a super easy arrival. My accommodation was right near the airport, so I was only about a 10-minute walk from the fair.
The first impression of the fairground and the layout of the stands was very good. Especially the area for building materials, was quite diverse and I liked it the most. Here was the density of relevant stands for me very high. The atmosphere at the fair was super pleasant and I had many great conversations with nice and competent people who are passionate about the construction industry and its topics.
What I really liked from an orga point of view was the badge technology. You could hold your badge, or ticket, to a scanner from each booth and quickly exchange information. Advantage for the exhibitors: They get an overview of who all was at the booth. Advantage for me: I get an overview of which booths I have visited and with respective information, contact persons and links.
Product diversity in sustainability and innovation
If you want to see a lot of innovative products for the construction industry, the Futurebuild trade fair is really the place to be! There are numerous innovations in building materials and most of them are increasingly concerned with a focus on sustainability. I found particularly interesting, the recycling of residual and waste materials to promote circular construction and CO² neutrality/negativity.
From this point of view, I also liked EDGE’s booth very much. EDGE stands for Eco Design Green Environment and is an association of several manufacturers of sustainable products.
Inspiring presentations and keynotes
Futurebuild also offered the opportunity to attend several presentations, including startup pitch sessions. The pitch of Low Carbon Materials is particularly memorable to me. They presented their product “Osto”. These are additives in granular form for concrete that ensure that concrete becomes CO²-neutral.
Another highlight was the panel discussion on “A 100 Year Plan for a new world” which inspired me to think. The speakers were: Catriona Brady, Indy Johar, Dr. Gemma Jerome and Pascal Smet. One statement from Indy Johar in particular stuck in my mind: “The challenges are changing from sustainability to survivability.” – Super exciting discussion that inspired one to think.
Overall, the trade fair was well organized and successful, and I look forward to the upcoming follow-up meetings in the coming weeks.
I will definitely be back at the Building Trade Fair next year and hope to meet even more innovative and sustainable products as well as inspiring people.
